NEW! No White Residue
Feb. 15th, 2007 12:48 amI think freezing rain is all right. It's dangerous as hell, but, unlike snow or hail or regular rain, it has a tenacious presence. Snow can be brushed or plowed to the side; it's pretty, but it gets old quick. Hail does its damage, but after the storm it's just souvenirs kept in peoples' freezers who want to remember how one day there was hail. And who the fuck cares about rain? Freezing rain, though, plasters, encases everything. It becomes a bumpy film around cars and mailboxes and unfortunate homeless people. Freezing rain is an incredible inconvenience, but I like it. I hope my death has something to do with freezing rain.
Tonight my cheeks are red from being smitten by freezing rain. I like The Ice Storm by Rick Moody for more reasons than there is freezing rain in it.
And though there was freezing rain today, a number of people did come to Haagen Dazs, mostly for heart-shaped cakes, but also for casual ice cream intake. I wrote "Happy Valentine's Day" on most of them, but one guy asked me to write "Will You..." and another asked for "Darling, I Love You." I'm pretty good at writing on the cakes.
I've been at Haagen Dazs a lot and also Best Buy and I've been trying to save up money. So far I've been doing well. I have more money in the bank now than I have had in years. I've curbed my DVD purchasing and lessened my spending money on booze. I've been working a lot, though. Some weeks around 50 hours. It's a lot, but it keeps me on the level. Having time to myself is no good for me.
The only big news I have to share is relatively big, but is also only a step closer to being bigger news. I got a call from Columbia College and they asked me to come in for an interview, which I will be doing on March 9th at 2pm in Suite 405 at 1104 Wabash, in Chicago. And also while I'm there, I'll be hanging out with Dame Gena Bailey. So I'll have someone to drink heavily with once the burden of getting accepted is completely out of my hands.
I'm nervous about the interview. I'm not good with interviews. I'll have to turn the charm up to 11. Dress nice, look good, smell pleasant, speak well, have an answer for every question.
So things are pretty pipe.
