My school started up again and I'm taking AVF047: Intermediate Film Production with the man who happens to be my academic adviser, Phil Katzman, whom I've met with so infrequently that he didn't remember who I was on Thursday. It's a Thursday class that lasts for 3 hours. For next Thursday we're expected to have synopses of the short films we plan on producing this semester. Unlike last semester's AVF027 project, this film will be shot in color with non-sync sound, which means that it will have a soundtrack, but no synchronized dialogue. And instead of old school editing with a splicer and tape, this sucker will be done on AVID. Isn't that so exciting?

Other than 5 to 8 minutes long, I don't know what my movie is going to be about. I have no ideas at all. All I know is I want to make a movie so awesome it makes the camera explode, but last semester's project was such a failure that I don't even want to bother making anything worth breaking a sweat over. You know what they say: if at first you don't succeed, don't try as hard, because then not succeeding won't mean as much as it did when you tried and failed the first time.

I should probably learn what AVID stands for. They have a bunch of acronyms at Best Buy that are supposed to make things easier, except for they don't. I know that MOD stands for 'Manager on Duty,' but that's about it. Others are CARE, LP, and LTS. I forgot what the L and the T stand for, but no joke, the S stands for SOP. Acronyms are great, don't get me wrong, but EIE, a.k.a Enough is Enough. My favorite one is SCUBA, but my favorite is GROSS, or Get Rid Of Slimy girlS. And also SCMODS, from The Blues Brothers, and also LASER.

From the Best Buy Employee Handbook:
