The system works. If you've got money, a suit and tie, a decent lawyer, genuine respect for people who deserve it, and you're not black or hispanic, the system works.

The reason cops are such dicks is that their power ends at the court room. They want to make you feel as bad as possible before the reality sets in that what you did wasn't all that wrong, at least not as wrong as how they made you feel it is. Then, after they've pleasured themselves with the delusion that they're important people, the educated--people who went to school for over 2 years--take over and they go Josh goes back to fucking each other himself with their nightsticks his father's electric shaver. People like the beautiful, honorable Judge (forgot her name) who saw the decency within me and let me go with a $195 fine and conditional discharge. The conditions of this discharge are that I don't do anything stupid for an undetermined amount of time. My record has been tarnished, but the trail of paperwork ends there. Now, of course, I'll have to work my ass off to reverse the consequences of my mistakes. I dunno, I'll find a way. I'll join the Peace Corps. Or sell Hershey Bars for MS.

I really can't stand it when people wear pajama pants in public. I hate PJ pants altogether, but seeing them worn in public sickens me. It's not cute, or ironically lazy, or proof that you don't care what people think. It's disgusting. They all look like they're infested with bed mites and dead skin cells and errant strands of leg or pubic hair. If you're going to wear what you slept in the night before, just go to sleep in jeans. Don't be a fucking asshole because I don't want to see that type of shit. And don't wear socks with sandals you fucking moron, with your visor cocked to the side. You disgust me. You have no taste. And don't say it's a matter of comfort, because society isn't about comfort. It's about at least having a pair of pants on deck to change into when you wake up. The girl who wears 4-inch heels and a miniskirt one day is the same one who will wear pajama pants and a sweatshirt the next. So fuck comfort. It's not about comfort. It's about you pretending to be a free-spirit. And the way you go about it makes me so angry. Because there are so many of you. And you're all wrong.

The book says we might be through with the past, but the past ain't through with us.
