Well, the Rotweiller, Brutus as it turns out his name was, is not a part of our lives anymore. His owners? came last night and took him back to where he belongs, somewhere in Buffalo. The question mark should serve as an indication that I don't really have a clear understanding of who these people are in relation to Brutus. They may just be the caretakers. In any event, these were some strange strange people. They were of reasonable age, maybe mid 40s. The woman, Gene, claimed to have a PhD in Psychology and said she was a community college professor. Her vocabulary, consisting mostly of the words "fuck" and "ass," didn't really suggest doctorate status, but who's to judge? The man, Ray I think his name was, said he was the owner of a bar and grille and alerted us to the fact that he and his partner Gene were pretty "plastered," Ray more so than Gene. They had driven from Buffalo to Geneseo (an hour and a half drive) under the influence of what seemed to be a moderate amount of alcohol. It's a wonder they made it to Geneseo, as conditions last night were pretty horrible, what with black ice and all that. It's still a mystery whether they made it back or not. They stayed at our house for a good 30 minutes while Ray guzzled a screwdriver made with age old Skol Vodka we had in the kitchen. Then, with the food we bought, the biscuits, and the accessories, they left a modest reward (just about enough to make up for the food, biscuits, and accessories) and hopefully they returned to Buffalo safe and sound with Brutus.

Overall these were good people and Brutus seemed happy to see them. Three days with that dog seemed like more than a week. If having a dog for 3 days has taught me one thing it is that I don't really think I should have a dog. Caring for another creature, having it rely on you for it's own survival, involves a great deal of responsibility. If being alive for 20 years has taught me one thing it is that I'm not a responsible human being.

Tomorrow's my colonic at the spa. Hope it goes well.
