1...2... gathering of the vibes
Jul. 2nd, 2001 08:16 pmi got back last night at 4 am dead friggin tired. it was the most luxurious night of sleep of my life. after sleeping in a wet sleeping bag for 2 nights, i was ready for my bed like none other.
we got there and had to wait about 7 hours in various lines to get to our campsite, which was rather shitty. then clouds started to form and we got the tent up just in time for the rain, only to find that it was not water proof at all. so in and out of the tent, we got soaked. we missed topaz, the opening act which i really wanted to see. the headliner for friday was les claypool. he's fucking awesome. they did an awesome version of shine on you crazy diamond. then on saturday there was a huge rain delay, but they had a tribute to hendrix, jim morrison, and janis joplin. we were too tired to stay through the whole thing, but the had a fireworks display for the first part and that was a sight. people said it went on until 4 am. then sunday night was bruce hornsby, john scofield, and medeski, martin, wood. sunday night was the best night for music. they were all so good.
we stayed sober for the whole show, i didn't even feel like drinking cause it was too hot out. but it didn't matter, there were enough drugged up people to make it seem like you're intoxicated. i saw bobert the first day. i never saw him again throughout the weekend. then i saw padrick. we talked for a bit and he went off. there were a lot of people from geneseo.
i think i got athlete's foot from wearing wet socks and walking through the mud. it hurts to walk. i thought i was going to get sick, but i'm fine now. overall i had a great time. if it didn't rain and if there were less people there, it would be one of the greatest times i've ever had. i think i'd go again next year. they said they wanted to make it 7 days.
i kinda want to go to the summit but i don't know if i have it in me. we'll see.
